Resources for the Narrative Lectionary
We offer four different resources for congregations following the narrative lectionary:
Storylines is a guide for weekly meeting Bible study groups following the narrative lectionary. This series helps participants connect God's story to their own, challenging them to not only think about God but also better hear how God is calling them to re-think their daily living. You can explore one of our Storylines packets here.
Life's Calling is designed for groups that meet once-a-month, but can be easily adapted for groups meeting twice a month. These monthly guides help congregations bring a "spiritual discernment" focus to their small group ministry. You can explore one of Life’s Calling small group packets here.
Faithful Companions is for weekly-meeting small groups and adult Sunday school classes. It is not a weekly Bible study, but instead guides groups through a variety of spiritual discernment activities, including but not limited to Bible study. The goal is to invite groups to engage and "walk with" a different "companion" each week, a different avenue of discernment to help them hear God's call. Such avenues or companions include: spiritual exercises, sharing their personal stories and reflecting on poems and videos in the style of Quaker third thing listening. All along the way, the group serves as companions to each other, as they offer each other a safe and supportive environment to hear God’s call. You can check out a sample of Faithful Companions here.
Storylines Preaching companion
This is a monthly packet full of preaching angles and resources for those following the narrative lectionary. With over 25 pages of material from contemporary and traditional sources, we ensure there will never be a week where you are out of ideas and inspiration. This subscription series is especially for leaders looking to bring fresh perspectives and new energy to the familiar texts. You can explore a sample here.
All subscriptions to the Storylines, Faithful Companions or Life's Calling come with additional resources:
Participant Guides: All of our subscription lines come with participant guides that introduce group members to the unique approach of each resource. This is especially helpful for participants who are not used to a discernment-based style of group discussion and listening.
Daily Social Media Inspiration: We maintain two Facebook pages that go along with our small group and Bible study material. The intent is to keep your members engaged with the monthly theme and lectionary reading on a daily basis. Think of them as online daily devotionals. One offers general inspiration on the monthly theme (View it here). The other offers inspiration specific to the Storylines Bible Study (View it here). Subscribing congregations are encouraged to repost any of our posts to their own church Facebook pages. We see this as our way of helping you enhance your social media presence.
Group Leader Trainings & Coaching: For this coming year, we are offering our group leader trainings and orientations for free with every new subscription. These online orientations will be offered quarterly. Since our model differs from those of traditional small groups and Bible studies, we want to be sure your group leaders have all the support they need. You are welcome to send as many leaders to these webinars as you like. Leaders can attend more than once as a “refresher.”
